1. Went to Mardi Gras. Couldn't get in as the place was jammed tight.
2. Went to see Bob Hope.
4. Went to Marlews (?). Not bad. Took another Joan home to Norris Green, nice girl.
5. Got letter from Jack Good (Oh Boy), wants photos. St. Luke's Hall. Cavern Jazz Club, all niter. Brian came in van, went to Cavern, played good. Pat came to take photos. Got back in van and went to St. Luke's. Played okay there. Pat took more photos. Drove back to Cavern and played again. Joan was there, but very cool, so I left her and went with Pat and Lil. Stayed till end.
6. (Sun) Went to Locarno and Starlite Club but it was closed.
7. Got photos developed, quite good.
10. Went to Carlton with Joan, nice kid, seeing her in Cavern on Saturday. Got big photos done, not bad at all.
11. Practiced in our garden. The drummer came but he was no good.
12. Cavern. Ritchie could only play 1st stand. Charlie and I spent hours in town trying to get bass E guitar string. Got one for £2.27.6d, put 30/-, pay next week. Played okay first stand. Alan Hardy played 2nd, not bad. Joan from Mattins didn't turn up. Joan Rimmer was there but we never spoke. Picked up nice girl from Kirkby. We went to Pier Head, had good time.
13. Went to Cavern to pick up amp, never bothered to take girl from Huyton home.
16. Went to see 'Horrors Of Black Museum'. Good.
18. Practiced at Alan's. Then went to Martins. Not much good.
19. Played at St. Luke's. Not bad.
20. Lowlands Cellar Club. Played for 2 hours. Quite good but not very crowded. Got good fee.
22. Went to Mardi Gras. Left early to phone Martin. We were on phone till 2 in morning. Got contract for £10.
25. Cavern. Arrived late, played quite good. Took girl from Gateacre home.
26. Lathom Hall, Seaforth. Whole group went to town (C&A) to get band jackets. Look good too. Played good at Lathom Hall. Murphy's group was there. Went with a girl called Pat. Took Ann Calvert home. Like her a lot.
27. Went to Cavern. Saw Joan, never spoke to her. Saw Pat and Lil.
28. Jive Hive, £5. Met Cyn in Rocket but she couldn't come. Signed contract for Mr. Martin. Played okay. D. Wilson got booed off.
29. Went to Regent with Cyn. Not bad girl, but no personality.
30. St. Luke's Hall, £5. played okay, very crowded.

October
2. Walked to West Derby to see new club Casbah. Quite good. Tried to get a booking but the Quarry Men are playing there.
3. Lathom Hall. £7.10. Never played due to contract. Chas and I went to town in afternoon. Went to Curzon with Cyn. I'm fed up with her.
4. Practiced in our garden with Barry drums.
5. St. Luke's Hall. Played okay, but not many people there.
9. Went to Machlins (?), not much good, took girl home to Huyton.
10. St. Luke's Hall, £6. Barry played drums. We never played too good. Bass string broke.
11. Went to Carrol Levis auditions. We get through on 26th Oct. We (possibly gate crashed) for Hughie Green auditions for 'Opportunity Knocks.' Went to see Cliff Richard. 1st and 2nd houses. Signed autographs for girls who thought I was Brett Landis. Saw Cliff Richard's manager. See him Dec 9th.
12. Jive Hive. Played okay. Hardly anyone there. Gebby and Lance come with us, we get them a date.
14. St. Luke's Hall, £4. Joan was there, so were all the rest.
15. Practiced in Alan's garden. Barry played drums.
16. Went to Martins with Alan, not bad, four ex-girls there. Followed Ann and pal home. I took Ann.
17. Cavern. Played okay. Went down very well, some complaints about us.
18. Lowlands Jazz Club. Played with Al Thompson. Wally played too. Took little gorgeous Teddy Girl to woods.
21. Played Jive Hive, quite good.
23. Cavern Jazz club, £3.10. Amplifier went first number, did without, phoned to get amp. Bluegenes small one not bad, had to pay 8/6d taxi fare.
24. Jive Hive. £6. Played at Jive Hive. Big row over 'Red Roses', never played it. Al and I missed last bus. He gets two lifts home, one from Mr Brown!
25. Went to Lowlands with Reg. Al Thompson and Paul were playing. I did two numbers. Took girl home to Muirhead Avenue. Gorgeous.
26. Carrol Levis (sic) Concert. Jive Hive. Went straight from work. We did 'Whole Lotta Shakin'', 'Brand New Cadillac'. We got through (3 out of 15). Went straight to Jive Hive, played good but empty, closing on Mondays. Got soaked going home.
27. Al and I went to 1st and 2nd house C. Levis. Got back at 11, went straight to party (student's 21st), played well.
28. Jive Hive. £4. Played okay.
30. Al Thompson came with us to Empire, but he never stayed.
31. Went to Maureen's party. Okay. Stayed with girl.
31. (Saturday) Final C. Levis Show. Played final and came out 2nd out of 150 acts. Winner, singer, 26 points. A. Storm and H. 2nd - 22 points (recount 16 points) but still second. Played good at Jive Hive.
