1. Went to Regent to see 'Return Of The Fly.'

3. Jive Hive, bad throat, played lousy. Eileen there, no trouble.

4. Stayed in. Washed suede shoes and cleaned guitar. Went to bed early.

5. Eileen at Southport, played lousy. Doris was there, never bothered with her. Made a date with blonde girl in case Eileen finished with me.

6. Jive Hive. Played ok.

7. Casbah, ignored Eileen all night, don't know how she puts up with me.

8. Met Eileen and went to 'Tommy the Toreador.'

10. Jive Hive, played ok. Al James took a tape recording. Eileen was there, she's a funny girl, like an iceberg, but I like her.

11. Went to bed at 10 as there was no fire, very cold.

12. Sent Valentine card to Eileen. She was at Southport, had row with her. The blonde girl was there but I never went with her. We told the group about Butlins.

13. Jive Hive, played okay. We told the group we were splitting up if they did not come on Tuesday and in the end they decided to come. Spent all afternoon getting a group together, practices at Alan's. 

14. Met Eileen. Marty Wilde Show not too good. Went to Cavern, Mary was there but never spoke to her.

15. Got two Valentine's, one from Southport and telegram from H.P. Orr to phone before 6.30. Saw all the group about tomorrow.

16. (Tues) Butlin's dance. Think we passed Butlin's audition.

17. Jive Hive, played ok. Eileen was there, crazy on her. Went back to Alan's and drafted a letter as Harold De Vere.

18. Decided to finish with Eileen because I like her too much. I don't think she feels the same way, but she says she does.

19. Missed train to Southport and got there 20 minutes late. Had another row with Eileen.

20. No mike at Cavern, but finally one was fixed. Eileen came back to ours, stayed with her till 6, then she slept in my bed. I slept on the floor.

21. Babs came round and washed my hair. Alan going mad 'cause Babs was with me.

22. Finished with Eileen because she could not come to town. Went to Abbey by myself.

23. Got Butlin's job.

24. Got amplifiers fixed. Jive Hive, played good. Eileen was there, never spoke but went to station with her. I don't know whether to finish with her or not.

26. Southport, Casino. Not a bad place.

27. Had row with manager of the Holyoake. Only played half a set for half the fee. Taxi to Jive Hive.

28. Eileen's sister and brother-in-law came to ours to see where she had been staying. This put her in a funny mood. Had row with her.

March
2. Jive Hive. Don played as Ritchie had 'flu. Finished with Eileen as I don't think she feels the same as I do. If she ever wants to go with me, she can do.

3. Finding it hard to get over Eileen but I think I did the right thing.

4. Southport. We paid £22.10 for tape recorder.

5. Two half-hours were taped by radio engineers at Jive Hive. Back with Eileen.

6. Bought 1938 Jaguar. Late for Casbah. Mrs Best went mad.

7. Al and I did N.U.R. for Winnie Mac, all old-age-pensioners, what a laugh. We deafened them and they had a fit when we jumped on the piano.

8. Had a job getting insurance.

9. Got provisional license and L plates. Couldn't get car to start. Got made redundant.

10. Took amp into Hessy's

11. Southport. Played okay.

12. Cavern. Car started. Late at Holyoake, got fined £1, then to Cavern. Playing tapes at Pack of Cards till 4.30.

14. Went to Empire to see Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Joe Brown show. Good show, never spoke to Eileen at all. Went to Pier Head for pie and tea.

16. Crosby, played terrible. Eileen and Babs were there, never spoke to them, they left early.

17. Jive Hive. Play 11.45 - 12. Eileen and Babs apologized, went backstage with them. Car ran out of petrol by Ritchie's. Got home 1.45.

18. Carr Mill. Went in Bluegenes van. Played two hours, good place. Went to bus stop with blonde girl.

19. Jive Hive.

20. Went out in car with Eileen and drove myself. Crashed into petrol kiosk in Broadgreen on way to Casbah. Took Eileen to station by bus.

21. Mike ran Bill and I up to see car and kiosk. Got claim form from insurance company. Went to Carlton by myself.

22. Got letter from kiosk's insurance company.

23. Zanzibar in Lincoln Sweep. Didn't win. Played good at Jive Hive. Eileen was there, didn't speak to her because I have finished with her over the car and I haven't any money.

25. Southport. Charlie was in a fight and we left early.

26. Backed winner in Grand National (Merriman 3rd). Jive Hive, played good, went back with Eileen, but had a row with her.

28. Got haircut at G.H. Lees'

29. Went to Empire to see Bobby Darin, Duane Eddy, C. McPhatter, Emile Ford, not a bad show.

30. Had a row with Eileen in cafe and she walked out. She went to Leeds without telling me. I slapped her face and kicked her at the door. Went to bus, had row and kicked her down bus. A gent tried to hit me with cane. Conductor called police over fare.
